Genealogy Guide: Resources at the Center for Jewish History

American Sephardi Federation

The American Sephardi Federation (ASF) was officially organized in 1973 to promote and preserve the spiritual, historical, cultural and social traditions of all Sephardic communities as an integral part of Jewish heritage. In 2002, ASF merged with Sephardic House to form a centralized repository for the heritage of Jews from around the Sephardic world, including the Iberian Peninsula, Southern Europe, the Balkans, North Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East.

Genealogical Resources at the American Sephardi Federation

The list on the following pages (click on "American Sephardi Federation" tab above) is a selection of ASF’s most useful resources for family history research. Books marked Reading Room can be found on the open shelves in the Lillian Goldman Reading Room, and those marked Genealogy Institute, in the Ackman & Ziff Family Genealogy Institute. Both rooms are located on the 3rd floor at the Center for Jewish History. For holdings specific to your research questions, you may search the Center for Jewish History’s online catalog by town or region name, family name, or other relevant subjects at search.cjh.org.  The American Jewish Historical Society, Leo Baeck Institute, and YIVO Institute for Jewish Research also have valuable material on Sephardic families.  For additional resources, see our Sephardic and Mizrahi research guide.
