Forṿerṭs (New York, N.Y.)
Digitized: Forverts [The Forward]

The "largest Jewish newspaper in the world" for many years, was founded in 1897 in New York City, by a group socialist immigrants from Eastern Europe. One of its founders was Abraham Cahan, later the chief-editor and leading figure of the paper for decades. Local editions were printed in Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. At its peak, it had contributors all over the world. It contained news reports, and variety of other sections: opinions, weekly supplement of photographs, satirical section, women's columns, poetry, literature, and essays. In the 1980's Forverts became a weekly, and it is still being published digitally today, with different editions in English and Yiddish.

An anarchist-communist weekly published in New York for over 80 years, up to 1977. Considerd by many as one of the prominent newspapers of American Jewry.

A New York City-based daily Yiddish language newspaper affiliated with the Communist Party, USA founded in 1922. Paul Novick served as its long-time editor. In its time it was one of the most prominent Yiddish newspapers published in the United States.

A daily paper published in New York City, founded in 1901 by the politically conservative and religiously Orthodox publisher Jacob Saphirshtein. In 1916 it reached its peak circulation. The same year Jacob Fishman was appointed editor, and the the paper took on a more liberal, intellectual tone. In 1928 it merged with ⁨Yidishes Tagblat⁩, and in 1952 it merged with ⁨Der Tog⁩.

A daily Yiddish newspaper published in New York City starting November 1914. In 1919 it merged with Die Vahrheit, and in the 1950s it merged with another Yiddish daily, Der Morgen Zshurnal. The publication ceased in 1971.

Ṿahrhayṭ = (The Truth)

A Jewish daily founded in New York by Louis E. Miller, once a founding partner of The Forward. In 1905 Miller founded The Vahrheit to compete with The Forward. Unable to pull readers away from The Forward, he moved to promote Jewish nationalism and culture to liberal and literary readers. When WWI began, Miller was the only Yiddish editor to favor the Allies. Most readers, still strongly opposed to Czarist Russia, stopped buying the paper. Financial backers relieved Miller of his editorship, but the paper never recovered. In 1919 it merged with Der Tog.
