Subject Guide: Resistance During the Shoah

The materials highlighted in this guide concern the topic of Jewish resistance during the Shoah. During this period, resistance existed in many forms, both violent and non-violent. While there were many organized resistance groups in Nazi-occupied territories, such as Rue Amelot and Żydowska Organizacja Bojowa, many individuals also acted on their own. 

There were also varying forms of nonviolent resistance, including the hiding of Jewish cultural artifacts, most famously in the Vilna and Warsaw ghettos. Another form of nonviolent resistance was spiritual resistance, whether through religious observance or any other means to maintain humanity and personal integrity.
