Sholem Asch was a Polish-Jewish novelist, dramatist, and essayist who worked in Yiddish. Asch attained wide popularity with his controversial christological novels. This collection contains a manuscript of Asch's novel Moses, a copy of Motke ganef with handwritten notes and corrections by Asch, and correspondence with a variety of colleagues and friends.
Anna Bogin was a Belarussian-born American Yiddish poet and writer . She frequently contributed to Freie Arbeiter Stimme (N.Y.), Zukunft (N.Y.), Feder, Der shpigl (Argentina). The collection consists of manuscripts of Bogin's poems and short stories, as well as some correspondence.
Papers of David Ignatoff (RG 1338)
David Ignatoff was a Russian-born American Yiddish author and playwright. A member of the Di Yunge literary movement, Ignatoff wrote short stories, novels, plays, and children's stories. This collection contains correspondence, manuscripts of Ignatoff's work in both Yiddish and English, and assorted personal materials.
Papers of Peretz Hirschbein (RG 833)
This collection contains manuscripts of plays, articles and other writings, correspondence, memoirs, photographs, theater programs, and personal materials of Yiddish playwright, novelist, journalist, travel writer, and theater director Peretz Hirschbein. The collection helps to illustrate Hirschbein’s importance and lasting impact upon the revival of Yiddish theater and literature in the early twentieth century.
Miriam Karpilow Papers (RG 383)
Karpilow was a Yiddish writer born in Minsk that immigrated to the United States in her youth. Collection includes manuscripts, clippings, correspondence and photographs relating to Karpilow's career and personal life.
Kadia Molodowsky Papers (RG 703)
Molodowsky was a Yiddish poet, writer, playwright, teacher, and Editor of the journal Sviva and Di heym (Israel). She received several prizes for her literary work. Collection includes manuscripts and clippings of poems, novels, plays, short stories, reviews, translations, and articles on a variety of political, historical and social topics. Included is a series of articles on famous women, written under the pen name Rifka Silberg.
Morris Rosenfeld Papers (RG 431)
This collection consists of the general, professional and personal correspondence of the labor poet Morris Rosenfeld, whose works were originally in Yiddish but eventually became translated into other languages. The papers mainly describe his literary work, and include not only his poetry, but also his essays and articles. The collection contains personal papers and documents, printed works (books, articles, poems), unpublished manuscripts, translations of Rosenfeld's poems into English and other languages, sheet music, and reviews of Rosenfeld's work.
