Papers of Abraham Cahan (RG 1139)
Cahan's career as a writer started in Russian, but after a few years of studying English he published stories in the New York Sun and the New York Press. The publication of his novels The Imported Bridegroom and Other Stories, The White Terror and the Red , and The Rise of David Levinsky brought him a great deal of acclaim from the English-language literati. In addition, he was one of the founders of the Jewish Daily Forward (Forverts) in 1897, and was its first editor, and then its editor-in-chief from 1903 until his death in 1951.
Bel Kaufman was born in Germany to Russian parents and initially raised in Russia before immigrating to New York. Kaufman's career as an educator and writer spanned decades and included a stint teaching a course on Jewish humor at Hunter College when Kaufman was 99 years old. This collection contains of manuscripts, photographs, paintings, tapes; and books from her personal library.

American author of poetry and prose, perhaps most famous for her poem "The New Colossus," which is engraved on the base of the Statue of Liberty. This collection contains copies of her poetry both published and as manuscripts, articles written by her, as well as limited correspondence. Also included is the original copy of her "The New Colossus."
Lake was a Jewish playwright, teacher, film producer, community worker from Cleveland, Illinois. The papers consist of: interviews conducted by Goldie Lake and Carole Kantor about Jewish immigrant family life. Mimeographed copy of Goldie Lake's play *Many Small Worlds*, as well as review, programs and clippings pertaining to the play.
Henry Roth was an American novelist and short story writer. His 1934 novel Call It Sleep is considered a masterpiece of Jewish American literature. The bulk of the collection document the author’s personal and professional life from the 1960s until his death in 1995. The papers encompass a wide range of material, including hundreds of fan letters; correspondence with Roth family members and significant figures in Roth’s life, as well as his unpublished and published manuscripts by Roth.
Milton Steinberg (1903-1950) Papers (P-369)
Milton Steinberg was as American rabbi and author of both theological works and fiction. This collection contains sections concerning his writings, his career as a rabbi, his military service, his activites as a Zionist, among others. There is also a section of audio recordings of Steinberg's philosophical essays as well as various testimonies at the time of Steinberg’s death.
Judith Ish-Kishor Papers (RG 666)
Ish-Kishor was a writer of juvenile and historical fiction. This collection consists of manuscripts of her work as well as correspondence with publishers and editors. One folder is dedicated to correspondence from Judith Ish-Kishor's father, Zionist leader Ephraim Ish-Kishor, in Palestine.
