Note: Although the site is viewable in English or Hebrew, the collection descriptions and finding aids are only in Hebrew. It is advisable to write to the Archives before visiting the Reading Room to ensure accessibility of materials. Research of some governmental or military records may be limited. Online publications include indexes of material held in the Archives.

Of particular interest for genealogical research from 1920-1948 are the Records of the Department of Health (RG 10), The Palestine Government Migration Department (RG 11) and the District Administration Records (RGs 23-27, 112). 

Many records held at the Israel State Archives and elsewhere, pertaining to Israel, are also available on microfilm through the LDS Family History Library catalog. For more information, see the Family History Library of LDS section of this guide.

*** The Montefiore Censuses of Ottoman Eretz Israel and Alexandria and Beirut of 1839, 1840, 1849, 1855, 1866 & 1875 are searchable online. You can find more general information about the census here.

Includes collections of population lists.

1918-1931

Election to Vaad HaKehilla-Electoral Registers*

Includes lists of Jews ages 18 and older who were eligible to vote. The registers provide the full name of each person, his/her father’s name, age and address. Also included are other lists of residents, such as lists of deaths for the years 1939-1943.

General List of Jerusalem Jews Ages 18 and Older*

This list includes about 17,500 names of both men and women.

Lists of Those Receiving Palestinian Citizenship

These lists are arranged by residential quarter and include mostly men’s names.

Municipality of Jerusalem Elections

Includes a list of Jewish voters in Hebrew, English and Arabic. Also, district registers for electoral districts nos. 9, 11, 12 and 19, including full name, age and residential quarter.
