New School Oral History Project (RG 2294)

These interviews were compiled as part of a class called "Oral History Workshop: COVID-19 and its Effects on Jewish Ritual Practice." Versions of the class have been taught by Hanna Griff-Sleven since at least 2007.

Oral History Collection on the Labor Movement (RG 113)

In 1963 the YIVO Institute sponsored an oral history project on the history of the Jewish community in America. The project's first theme was the American Jewish labor movement from the turn of the century to the period of the New Deal. The project director was Moses Kligsberg, sociologist and YIVO staff member. Forty-three persons were interviewed. The project lasted until 1968 but was not completed. 

The Neil M. Cowan Collection of Oral History Interviews (RG 2027)

Tapes of oral history interviews of Jews from Eastern Europe who either emigrated to the United States between 1890 and 1925 or who were born in the United States between those dates to parents who had recently immigrated.

YIVO Dialect Project

The YIVO Dialect Project produced several hundred interviews with Jews from Eastern and Western Europe, and with American Jews. They were recorded by Beatrice Silverman Weinreich and her colleagues in 1948-1949. These recordings are in YIVO's Sound Archive. To listen to these materials you must make an appointment to visit the Sound Archive in person. YIVO Folksong Project (RG 2299) [Field recordings are digitized and available online]

This collection consists of an estimated 320 hours of 2,000 folksongs and oral histories from 75 informants who participated in the YIVO Folksong Project directed by Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett from 1973-1975. This collection is a one-of-a-kind, large-scale gathering of oral histories centered around traditional Yiddish music.
